Data Policy

Transparency on where electricity data comes from, how often it is refreshed, and how freshness labels are applied.

Update cadence

State-level electricity data is reviewed on a monthly cadence. Pages are statically generated from the latest available state dataset in this repository.

Data source

Source information is shown on state pages, including source name and source URL. Current values are benchmark averages used for comparisons and all-in-rate bill estimates.

Freshness scoring

Each state record includes an updated field. We compute age in days from that value and classify freshness:

Invalid or missing dates are treated as stale and flagged as potentially outdated.

Optional Google Analytics

With your permission, Google Analytics uses analytics cookies to measure visits and engagement on public pages. Google receives page addresses, browser and device information, approximate location and cookie identifiers. Our integration removes query strings, fragments and referrers and does not send calculator inputs or contact details. Advertising personalization, Google signals and automatic form/search tracking are disabled.

Use Google Analytics preferences at the bottom of any page to allow or reject it. Your choice and Google cookies last up to 180 days. Rejecting after acceptance clears accessible Google cookies and reloads the page to stop future measurement; it does not erase data already received by Google. User and event retention is set to two months without resetting on new activity; aggregate reports can remain longer. Google may process data outside your country. See Google's Privacy Policy. Existing cookieless Plausible analytics is separate from this Google choice.

Interpretation notes

Bill examples use the EIA all-in average residential rate (delivery included). They don't add separately billed taxes, fixed customer charges, or other local utility line items.
